In the area of Belgorod on June 27, 1943 a few days before Operation “Zitadelle” Army Group South organized a “dog and pony” show for Turkish officials, in order to impress them. At the time Turkey was neutral and was approached by both the Axis and the Allies.
Tigers of schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503 along with a Kampfgruppe from the 7th Panzer-Division and Luftwaffe’s Stukas presented an impressive spectacle, executing a live fire exercise. The Tigers spearheaded the Kampfgruppe’s advance and were praised by the visitors.
